The MexAm Museum’s Mission

Is to preserve, promote, and celebrate the people and history of the founding cultures of Tucson and the Pimeria Alta. We showcase, educate, and commemorate Southern Arizona’s Mexican-American & Tucsonense history, ​heritage, and culture with exhibits and programming.


  • Sosa-Carrillo House Remodel

    Located on the Tucson Convention Center campus the Sosa-Carrillo House is an adobe residence circa 1878, is one of only three buildings saved from 1960s urban renewal on the TCC campus. The Sosa-Carrillo House as inducted to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. The last remodel occurred in the 1970s under the Tucson Heritage Foundation. The Arizona Historical Society owned the House from 1972 until 2023 when it was sold to Rio Nuevo with the promise of Rio Nuevo investing $1.3 million towards phase 1 restoration.

  • The Sosa-Carrillo House

    Built ca. 1978, the Sosa-Carrillo House has a long history preserved within its thick adobe walls. The Carrillo’s continually occupied the house for 90 years up until Urban Renewal. In 2018, Betty Villegas and Patricia Benton partnered with Los Descendientes to propose a new the Mexican American Heritage and History Museum. In 2019, the historic house reopened with its first exhibit “Trailblazing Women of Mariachi Music”

Visit and Parking

The MAHHM is surrounded by the Tucson Convention Center. Parking is located off of the northernmost parking lot on Granada Ave.

There are disabled parking spaces near the southwest of the Sosa-Carrillo House.

The Museum is one story and wheelchair accessible.
